Premium Vanilla Earl Grey Tea by Dilmah | 20 Exquisite Pyramid Bags for a Luxurious Infusion

What is Earl Grey?

The distinguished blend, renowned for its unique flavour that comes from the oil of bergamot. This citrus fruit’s fragrant oil is infused into black tea leaves, giving the tea its signature taste. While traditionally made from teas like Chinese Keemun and intended to be enjoyed without milk, modern variations include a smoky touch with lapsang souchong or even green and oolong versions.

The history of the bergamot tea is as rich as its flavour. The blend dates back to the early 19th century, with various legends surrounding its origin. One popular tale suggests it was named after Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the 1830s. Despite the myths, it’s likely that bergamot was initially used to enhance the taste of lower-quality teas.

Today, this is not only a tea lover’s delight but also a versatile ingredient. It lends its exquisite flavour to cakes, confectionery, and even savory sauces. Whether enjoyed in a traditional cup or as a culinary component, the tea remains a beloved choice for its delightful blend of robust black tea and the therapeutic properties of bergamot oil.

VANILLA IN TEA

Vanilla, with its sweet and creamy essence, is a delightful addition to tea blends, imparting a comforting warmth and a luxurious aroma that elevates the tea-drinking experience. When infused in teas, vanilla’s subtle yet rich flavor profile complements the natural tannins of black or green tea leaves, creating a harmonious balance. It’s particularly popular in blends where it can soften the astringency of the tea, adding a layer of smoothness without overpowering the blend’s core characteristics. For tea enthusiasts looking to indulge in a cozy, dessert-like brew, vanilla-infused teas offer a guilt-free escape. Its versatility also allows for creative pairings with other flavors, such as citrus or spices, making vanilla a cherished ingredient in the art of tea blending.

The new premium range was introduced by Dilmah last year. Three flavours were ranged in Coles: Earl Grey & Vanilla, Ceylon Green Tea with Mint, and Royal Ceylon Breakfast. See the full article on Inside FMCG – Dilmah launches luxury artisanal tea range across Coles stores – Inside FMCG.
We’ve got an impression that initially they were ranged in a number of Coles stores if not in all, but now you can find this tea in selected stores only.
To the tea now: when you open a tin, you can smell sweet vanilla followed by bergamot. We did not quite like vanilla notes here as we found them a bit “artificial”.

It will be interesting to compare this with other bergamot and Vanilla flavoured teas on market.

Pros
Very nice, pleasant to drink tea.

Cons
Vanilla has “artificial” smell and taste.

You can buy it in Coles for approx. $14 per a tin of 20 tea bags (equals 70c per tea bag). We bought it on promo for $9 per tin (equals to 45c per bag).
